Make a Zest How-to Video

Updated this week

How to Create Your Own Gifting How-to Videos

While buying gifts is anything but novel, buying and sending gifts online kinda is.

Zest offers a totally intuitive way for your shoppers to send one or tons of gifts in seconds via our Corporate Gifting, Consumer Gifting, and Event Gifting products, but that doesn’t mean your audience couldn’t use some helpful content to get started.

We recommend creating a how-to video and sharing with your customers via email, landing page, and social media. Making a short and sweet educational video helps:

  • Build awareness around your store’s easy gifting options.

  • Show your shoppers how to shop in this new way (and make it more approachable!).

  • Reduce your customer support tickets from shoppers asking “How do I use this?”

Tools for Making a How-to Video for Your Zest Gifting Features

This video was made with a variety of common design and editing tools:

Google Docs was used to draft the script. Keep in mind that one minute of speech is roughly 120-160 words.

  • You can use any word processor you prefer, as long as you have a place to jot down what you want to say.

  • You may need to scale back your word count based on how much demonstration is coinciding on the screen. (After all, you don’t want to blaze through the demo just to recite your whole script as fast as possible!)

Phia was the app used to record each step in the Caroline’s Cakes video above. This is a low-cost/free screen recording app that is easy to use and has cool features like automatic zoom on your cursor.

  • You can also just as easily record each step using QuickTime, Loom, or Canva.

Pro tip: Record each step separately, instead of one long recording, so you can easily fix errors or update clips as needed without having to record the entire video again!

Window Resizer is a great Chrome app used to get consistent window sizes for screen recordings. It’s free and very easy to use.

Canva was used to trim segments and stitch them together into one seamless, snazzy video.

  • You can also edit videos in Loom, but you may find Canva’s video editor to be more user-friendly.

  • Canva is also a great tool for adding audio. You can record voiceovers directly in Canva, and while audio editing options are limited, there are plenty of options for this task.
