How to Configure Add-on Products in Storefronts

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Add-ons in your storefronts lets you offer memorable extras β€” like handwritten logo cards, merchandise, or gift wrapping β€” alongside your primary products in a corporate storefront.

Before you begin, keep these requirements in mind:

  • All add-on products must originate from Shopify before they can be configured in Zest.

  • Add-ons cannot be purchased on their own β€” they must accompany a base product.

  • Your fulfillment team should have a clear internal process for handling add-ons like giftwrap before you go live.

Setting Up Add-On Products in Shopify

In Shopify, create a product you want included as an add-on in with the following:

  • product title

  • product description

  • product image

  • deselect all sales channels

Setting Up Add-On Products in Zest

Mark a product as an add-on

  1. In the Zest Partners portal, navigate to the Products tab.

  2. For each product you want to designate as an add-on, click the corresponding kebab menu (three stacked dots) and mark the checkbox next to Is an add-on product.

  3. Navigate to the storefront where you want the add-on to appear and add it as you would any other product.

Once marked as an add-on, the product will appear in a separate section below main products in the storefront. It will not be purchasable on its own.

Add the add-on to a specific storefront

Because add-on status is set globally at the product level, you can add the same add-on to multiple storefronts or keep certain add-ons exclusive to specific storefronts. This is useful if you want to offer a client-specific branded insert on a private storefront without surfacing it elsewhere.

Pricing Your Add-Ons

Pricing for add-ons is set directly on the product in Shopify and applied per recipient in the storefront. You can make an add-on free ($0) or charge any amount. Zest does not add fees for logo uploads or customization fields. A minimum of $1.00 per add-on item is recommended to cover any printing or handling overhead.

Hiding Add-ons from E-Gift Recipients

If you want an add-on like a custom logo card or gift wrapping to only appear in the physical package and not in a recipient's e-gift email or delivery, toggle on Hide from e-gift recipients in the add-on product settings.

Sending Different Add-ons to Different Recipients in the Same Order

When a buyer places a multi-recipient order, they can choose which recipient groups receive the add-on. Different groups within a single order can receive different product combinations β€” for example, some recipients can receive the base product plus a custom logo card while others receive only the base product. All recipients within a group receive the same quantities of main products and add-ons.

Note: Add-ons are not conditional based on product selection. They appear for all products in a storefront. If you need different add-on configurations for incompatible product and add-on combinations, create separate storefronts with distinct add-on setups.

Setting Minimum Order Quantities and Lead Times

You can configure minimum order quantities and lead times for any add-on directly in the Products tab. For example, you might require a minimum of 25 units for a custom logo card or set a 7-day lead time for gift-wrapped items.

Troubleshooting: Add-Ons Not Appearing in Your Storefront

If your add-on products aren't showing up, check the following:

  • Products marked as not requiring shipping in Shopify are treated as digital products by Zest. If e-gifting is disabled on your storefront, these products won't appear. Ensure the product is configured to require shipping in Shopify, or enable e-gifting on the storefront.

  • No inventory at the tracked location causes Zest to mark the product as sold out. Add inventory or disable the Respect out of stock setting.

  • A display setting may be disabled in Zest. Verify the product configuration matches your other working add-ons.
