In the Zest Gift Notes Settings page, you can integrate your marketing app. When you integrate your email and SMS marketing tool, events are automatically sent to that tool, empowering you to build personalized campaigns specific to gifting that delight and engage gifters and recipients for the long run.
Build impactful sequences and use these events to trigger emails and SMS messages to communicate with your whole new audience of gifters as well as their gift recipients.
In this guide, we’ll cover how to set up the integration, what to set up in your marketing app, event information, example event data, and example transactional email and text message copy.
How to Integrate Your Marketing App
Go to Zest Gift Notes > Settings > Integrations.
Click Connect.
Select your third-party app. When you generate the API key in your marketing tool, select the full access/permission options.
Enter your API key and click Save.
What is an event and what does it trigger?
Zest Gift Notes keeps track of gifter and recipient details and actions so you can send timely transactional emails, tracking updates, and marketing to both audiences (when they opt in, of course).
Events, like when a customer places a gift order or when a recipient accepts a gift order, are automatically sent to your marketing tool when you integrate. Use these events to trigger automated email and SMS sequences for your gift-buying customers and their recipients.
These events give you the critical information you need to deploy post-purchase comms, like order confirmations and tracking updates, as well as personalized messages that keep gifters and recipients engaged all year long so they come back to gift again!
See the Zest Gift Notes Events guide for a complete overview of each Event sent.
Create Sequences for Messages to Be Sent
Once you integrate your marketing platform, you will need to set up sequences based on all seven of the Event triggers Zest will send to your email platform to trigger the transactional messages your brand must send. Learn more about this process here.
Configure Gifting Capabilities
While configuring these capabilities, consider what’s currently possible with your existing systems, like your third-party marketing app and downstream fulfillment center.
For example, if your existing system doesn’t currently support printed gift messages, do not select that option during this step. These are the gift message delivery methods your customers will be able to choose from during checkout.
Go to Zest Gift Notes > Settings > Gifting capabilities.
Click Edit settings.
Select which gift message delivery methods you want available to your customers.
Click Save.
Note: Do not configure email or SMS prior to setting up and testing your digital gift message flows.
Configure Recipient Opt-in
Control the opt-in text and disclosure text for recipient opt-in. This only appears when SMS or email is enabled. We recommend reviewing these settings with your team to understand if you have any brand specific requirements.
Configure copy/text for Opt-in checkbox text.
Add Marketing disclosure text.
Appears in subdued font below the opt-in checkbox. You may use markdown to add links to your text.
Select if by default you would like to opt recipients (the person who receives the gift from the customer) into marketing messages by default.
Add Digital Cards
Go to Zest Gift Notes > Settings > Digital cards.
Click Add digital card.
Click Select image.
Click Add images. Note: Digital card images should be 600x600 pixels in size, and they should reflect common and current gifting sentiments, e.g., happy birthday, holidays, graduation, etc.
Once your digital card image is added, select the image and click Done.
Give the digital card a name, such as “Happy Birthday #1.”
Select a category for the card, such as “Birthday,” from the drop-down menu.
Set the card to “True” to make it visible at checkout or “False” to keep it saved, but hidden.
Click Save.
Note: To add more images to your card options, navigate to the “Entries” section and click Add entry. From here, you can continue uploading as many card images as you wish so they’re readily available for upcoming events, seasons, and holidays.

Configure Shopify Branding Settings
Update your branding settings in Shopify. The gift recipient page, i.e., the wrapping paper and logo, will automatically reflect the brand settings from your Shopify account. To update your brand assets, go to your Shopify brand settings page. You need to upload a logo and set your brand’s primary colors.
