We want gift senders and recipients to have the most frictionless gifting experience possible.

We found that placing payment at the time of sending the gift both added friction to the gifting process and could cause issues if the gift recipient never accepts their gift, i.e., the sender pays for a gift that nobody ever gets.

By moving payment to after the gift has been accepted, we reduce that point of friction and stress (while saving merchants from having to potentially make some refunds).

The conversion rate from "gift accepted" to "gift paid" is nearly 100%.
